I-64 Widening and Overlay

Project Overview

As a sub-consultant, GBA provided roadway design for eastbound improvements associated with the six-mile widening and overlay of I-64 from I-270 to Clarkson Road. In addition to adding an eastbound interstate lane throughout the project limits, GBA also provided for the relocation of two eastbound slip ramps and the redesign of several more in conjunction with the one-way outer roads. To keep construction costs within MoDOT’s allotted budget, the footprint of the existing outer roads was maintained with minimal reconstruction. To accomplish this, we used a Highway Safety Manual analysis to justify 11-foot lane widths and a variety of slope protection measures.
