79th Street Design/Build Project Wins DBIA Award
GBA, along with construction team member, Emery Sapp & Sons, were awarded the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) Mid-America Region Award for the 79th Street project located in Lenexa, Kan. The award was given at the organization’s annual Awards Banquet on Oct. 16 where 79th Street was recognized in the under $25 million Infrastructure Category.
This was an exciting project for Lenexa as the first city in the State of Kansas to do a design/build project of a major arterial road/collector. It was also GBA’s first roadway design/build project. The portion of the project was very important because it serves as the only access for an elementary school, several resident subdivisions, a church, sporting fields and the entire City’s Maintenance Division. The project required close interaction with a diverse group of stakeholders.
Working closely with the City and the various stakeholders, GBA and ESS were able to accomplish the goals of the project including meeting a tight schedule and creating a safer route.
The project has also been recognized by the Concrete Promotional Group with an Excellence in Concrete award as well as an award from ACPA in the Municipal Streets and Intersections category.
